Saffron

Last night Aaron made naan bread and we got out some saag (spinach curry) and saffron rice from the freezer (freezers rule).

Aaron said something to the effect of: Here we are, eating rice made with the most expensive spice in the world, and (2nd born)'s putting ketchup on it.

No accounting for taste, right?

A money saving tip for saffron: if you buy it where the spices are in the grocery store it is ridiculously expensive. However, if you buy it in a Mexican grocery store, or if your local store has a Mexican spices section, it is half the price. Maybe less? The white saffron sellers are ripping you off.
